Recently, Jerry Stiller, who famously played George Costanza’s dad on Seinfeld, was doing a photo shoot for the New York Daily News. The pictures were taken in front of the Astoria, Queens house that was used for the exterior of the Constanza home (the interior was shot on a soundstage, of course). After the pictures were taken, Stiller said, “What the hell? Let’s give it a shot,” and knocked on the front door. When Jack Lopipero, the real owner of the home, opened the door, he exclaimed, “Hey, Costanza’s father!”, and welcomed Stiller inside.
For the next hour, Jack and his wife Bessie, both 84 years old, chatted with Stiller about Seinfeld, which the couple loved, though they admitted they preferred the episodes where their house was featured. They also shared family pictures, reminisced about Stiller’s career, and simply got to know one another. After his surprise visit, Bessie said, “This is the happiest day of my life. You really made my day.” Stiller seemed just as touched by the visit. As the car he was riding pulled away, Stiller looked wistful and said, “I loved it. I loved doing it. I won’t forget this day. How about that?”
